Background

The Library Managers’ Council (LMC) was established to gather input from member public libraries on regional library matters. The Council advises Peace Library System (PLS) on integrated library system (ILS) issues, TRAC issues, and other service areas as needed.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Library Managers’ Council (LMC):

  • ensures communication among member libraries and with PLS.
  • represents libraries of different sizes.
  • is advisory in nature.
  • can make recommendations to PLS about services and policies.
  • will report back to member libraries at the annual Public Library Meeting.
  • will consider TRAC services and make recommendations to the TRAC Advisory Council.

Procedures

  1. The LMC will meet in-person prior to the spring TRAC Advisory Council Meeting and will meet by teleconference in the fall. 
  2. The LMC will consist of representatives from Grande Prairie Public Library and 8-10 other libraries of various sizes.  Library Managers or designates can volunteer at the May Public Library Meeting to serve on the Council.
  3. PLS staff, including the Director and Department Managers, will attend the meetings.
  4. The Chair of the Council will be elected by Council members at the spring meeting, or as needed, for a two-year term.  The Chair or an alternate will attend the annual TRAC Advisory Council meeting.
  5. Travel expenses to attend meetings will be reimbursed by PLS or TRAC.
  6. PLS will develop the agenda in consultation with the Chair.
  7. A PLS staff member will take minutes at each meeting.
