New PLS Staff

Peace Library System is pleased to announce the hiring of its newest Library Consultant, Alex (Alexandria) Eldridge.  Alex will start on Monday, May 5, where she will meet our public library managers for the first time, at our annual Public Library Meeting.  Alex comes to us with experience in journalism, technology, social media, training, and conference coordination.  She will finish her Masters in Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta, mid-April.  Presently she is working part-time at the Spruce Grove Public Library in TRAC providing technology training to both her fellow library staff and to patrons.  She has a passion for rural public libraries, having grown up in the small community of Smoky Lake (population 1,022) 116 km northeast of Edmonton, where she spent much of her time at the public library!  She will become the Library Consultant for Bear Point, Beaverlodge, Calling Lake, DeBolt, Eaglesham, Elmworth, Flatbush, High Prairie, Hythe, Kinuso, La Glace, Menno-Simons, Red Earth, Sexsmith, Slave Lake, Smith, Tangent, Valhalla, Valleyview, Wabasca, Wembley, and Worsley public libraries.  We look forward to warmly welcoming Alex to the PLS team!

The 2014 Rural Libraries Conference is closer than you think and this year, we are asking for your input! Peace Library System is putting out a Call for Sessions. So it is time to get those creative juices going and think about what you would like to present. The deadline for submissions is March 7, 2014.

Applications for Young Canada Works

The Canadian Library Association, in partnership with the Department of Canadian Heritage, is pleased to announce the launch of Young Canada Works (YCW) summer student and graduate internship programs for 2014-2015.
In 2013, the Canadian Library Association assisted the Canadian library Community in the creation of 4 internship positions and 109 summer positions such as, Reading Club Coordinators, Library Assistant, Digitization Assistant, Program Coordinator and Special Collections Intern, among many others.
Applications for both YCW in Heritage Organizations and YCW at Building Careers in Heritage will be accepted until February 3, 2014. All applications must be completed online at
