Excellence in Library Service Awards

14 May 2013

Do you know a school or public librarian that is doing an amazing job? Have they had an impact in your life, or the life of a family member? Do they continue to surprise you with innovative and fun activities at the library? Do you want the librarian to be recognized for their excellent service?

As part of its commitment to encourage excellence in library service in the Peace region, Peace Library System annually presents two library staff members – one in public library service and one in school library service – with an Excellence in Library Service Award. Formerly known as the Excellence in Librarianship Awards, the name has been changed to reflect and emphasize the importance of libraries serving their communities and/or schools.

The call for nominations for the 19th annual Excellence in Library Service Awards is now open.  The awards are available only to library staff working for public libraries that are members of Peace Library System or school libraries that contract with Peace Library System.  The nominee must be an employee of the library at the time of nomination.   Nominations for the public library award are accepted from System member library staff, board members, or members of the public. Nominations for the school library award are accepted from school or district administrators, teachers, parents, or peers. The deadline for nomination submissions is June 30, 2013.

Once all submissions have been received, the nominations will be sent to an independent jury for review and to select the recipient(s). An award is not necessarily given in each category each year. The award(s) will be presented at the Rural Libraries Conference on September 26, 2013 in Grande Prairie. Each award consists of a framed certificate and financial assistance to attend the Alberta Library Conference, the Rural Libraries Conference, or another conference of one’s choice.
For more information, or to download the nomination packages, please visit Excellence Awards. You can also view our member public library directory and member school library directory.
