International Collection

The International Collection is owned by Peace Library System and is housed at the Grande Prairie Public Library as part of our Resource Sharing Contract with them. Grande Prairie Public Library has agreed to manage and circulate the International Collection blocks on behalf of Peace Library System libraries. The International Collection was formerly called the Alberta Multilingual Book Collection (AMBC), referred to as World Languages, and was inherited from Parkland Regional Library.
The International Collection will not be augmented by Peace Library System and Grande Prairie Public Library has the discretion to weed the Collection of damaged items as necessary. As items are weeded, blocks may contain less than 25 items.

  • Download the list of the International collection holdings. We have 69 blocks (48 adult, 21 juvenile) in a total of 17 languages.
  • Download the International collection procedures
  • Regarding languages in high demand for which we have only a few blocks, Grande Prairie Public Library reserves the right to lend the library only one block in that language at a time, rather than multiple blocks in that language, if necessary.
  • The borrowing library may keep the block for three months. The loan period to the patron will be the usual three weeks, plus two renewals.
  • Borrowing libraries that wish to track their circulation counts of the International Collection will first need to request the International Collection code for their Collection pulldown menu, to make it possible for Polaris to tag your usage of this specific collection. Please contact Rae Weniger at if you wish to have this collection code added to your pulldown list. Without the collection code added to your pulldown menu, Polaris will simply add your International Collection circulations to your library’s total circulations count, but running a specific report to pull out just the International Collection statistics for your library will not be possible.
