Services To Public Libraries
Review the list of all our public member libraries.
A Library Materials Allotment or fund account is set up for each member library for the purchase of library materials, including high-demand paperback, adult hardcover and children's bestsellers.
Once library managers have decided what library materials they wish to purchase, System staff take care of the ordering, receiving, cataloguing, and processing of the materials. The combined purchasing power of member libraries results in discounts of up to 45 per cent. Materials are shipped to the library virtually ready to go onto the shelf.
Regional Network Services
The IT Services Manager and Network Support Technician provide Polaris support and assist library staff with computer advice and hardware/software troubleshooting. Staff also assist libraries with the automation process.
Consulting Services
Professional library consultants are available to provide advice, answers and information on a wide range of topics. Consultants make regular visits to member libraries and are available on the phone and by e-mail.
The Consulting Department coordinates the annual Summer Reading Club for children, author tours by Canadian and Albertan authors, and the annual fall Rural Libraries Conference.
Information Services and Access to Materials
The Interlibrary Loan service allows patrons to borrow books from around the province, across the nation, and beyond.
The Regional Resource Centre finds answers to patron questions quickly and accurately.
The Peace Library System online catalogue includes the holdings of virtually all Peace Library System member libraries and those of Marigold Library System, Yellowhead Regional Library and Northern Lights Library System. The combined catalogue is called TRACpac.
Circulating collections of children's and adult, fiction and non-fiction, as well as Large Print and First Nations materials are available for loan to member libraries either in subject blocks or individual items.
Blocks of audio books; special DAISY blocks (including DAISY reader) for patrons with perceptual disabilities; seasonal Christmas blocks; and Storytime Kits (see our storytime procedure manual) are available for borrowing through Peace Library System.
Peace Library System member public libraries have access to blocks of books in more than 37 languages through the Alberta Multilingual Book Consortium.
Membership in any Peace Library System library allows eligible patrons to receive a TAL (The Alberta Library) Card allowing them to borrow books from almost 300 public, college and university libraries across Alberta. Eligible patrons will be issued a combined TRAC/TAL borrowing card to be used throughout the region and across the province.
