The Make it yours Marketing Campaign
The Alberta Library (TAL) is preparing to roll out the 2012 season of the Make it yours library campaign, and you are eagerly encouraged to participate in showcasing what your library has to offer! This is a multi-year campaign begun in 2011 and libraries are encouraged to use the materials at any time.
A more detailed document about the campaign will be coming out from TAL in April, and PLS will share it with you then. However, to give you a heads-up, here are some highlights:
There is a clearly laid out Make it yours Wiki which offers:
- FAQs
- Icons you can use
- Key messages to share of how libraries contribute to the community
- Make it yours key messages
- Ideas on how to use the Make it yours campaign tools
You can create a personal custom poster (go to http://youralbertalibrary.com)
- Highlight four favourite things about your library—e.g. your favourite book, movie, eBook, library event, program, etc.
- have your staff do it, too
- Get your mayor/reeve and councilors to make one!
- To create a poster, follow the very easy instructions and save it to the public gallery; download to print it, or post it to Twitter or Facebook
- If you make a mistake, the poster can be deleted from the public gallery by emailing Janelle Beblow at TAL with the poster number in the gallery and she’ll take it down for you; jbeblow@thealbertalibrary.ab.ca)
- Tip: Although the name field asks for your first name only, you can actually type in a first and last name now, which may be a good idea for your mayor, etc.
- You can insert a photo of yourself if you like, but it’s not required
TAL will provide PLS with two light-weight pull-up display banners of the campaign that libraries can borrow from us to use in promoting your library. Let us know of your interest early, so we can schedule delivery—contact rweniger@peacelibrarysystem.ab.ca; (780) 538-4656; 1-800-422-6875
TAL is organizing media releases
- Newspapers Ads: will be spread over a six-week period from Monday, May 7 to Sunday, June 17; TAL will send PLS a schedule of when the ads will run in our region. The ads will be in black/white and will be general, without specific library names
- Radio Spots: will air for two weeks during May 7-13 and May 21-27; the radio spots from last year will be used again this year. TAL will send PLS a list of which stations in our region will air the ad
- A Facebook Ad campaign will also run during the six weeks, Monday, May 7 to Sunday, June 17
TAL has created bookmarks, which PLS has ordered and will distribute to your library, hopefully at the beginning of May
TAL plans to pilot Rink ads in a few communities around the province. If your library is interested in participating in this pilot, please contact Janelle Beblow directly for more information, at jbeblow@thealbertalibrary.ab.ca, (780) 414-0805 x 233
