Legislation

Libraries in Alberta are affected by the following act and regulation:

  • Libraries Act
Explains how libraries in Alberta are governed and defines the roles of the partners involved in library service. Alberta Municipal Affairs is responsible for its administration.
  • Libraries Regulation
Rules that pertain to the Act

To assist library managers and library boards in complying with the Libraries Act, the Public Library Services Branch of Municipal Affairs has created the document Library Bylaws: Questions to Ask.
